Massey Energy does much of its community work in West Virginia and Kentucky through its spousal groups.  Massey Energy Chairman, CEO, and President Don Blankenship created the spousal group program over twenty years ago.

The Nicholas Energy, Route 3, Route 85, and Tug Valley Spousal Groups play a vital role in their respective communities.

The Route 85 Spousal Group spread their goodwill over a host of projects.  The Sherman Little League Park and Scott High School Athletic Field benefited from their involvement to the tune of two new scoreboards, while Twilight Community Park received new playground equipment.  The Girl Scouts, Special Olympics, the Madison Coal Festival and a host of other organizations also received the Route 85 Spousal Group’s time and resources to help pursue their worthwhile missions.

The Route 3 Spousal Group has displayed their generosity many times and in many ways throughout the years.  From sending our troops care packages, reading to students, and hosting an Easter egg hunt to supporting area schools, fire operations and a local food pantry, their impact was felt by many, near and far.

The Tug Valley Spousal Group has lent a helping hand to many through a variety of initiatives.  From distributing over 800 turkeys and 600 hams to needy families during the holidays to nursing home visits, flood cleanups and participating in the March of Dimes Walk. Flood Clean Up

At Massey Energy, we are doing the right thing with energy!
