Each December, Massey Energy invites over 5,000 needy children to its Christmas Extravaganza.
In 2003 and 2004, the Christmas Extravaganza was held in Madison, West Virginia, and in 2005, the Christmas Extravaganza was held in Belfry, Kentucky to benefit over 5,500 children from Mingo County, West Virginia and Pike County, Kentucky.
Decorated with bright holiday colors, Santa’s Workshop is filled with Christmas music and holiday cheer. There, from among nearly 11,000 toys and gifts, each child, who might not otherwise receive anything for Christmas, chooses two Christmas gifts. Some of the kids win bicycles, stereos, televisions, or DVD players.
| Each child also receives a bag of fruit and Christmas candy, and each family is given a turkey to prepare for Christmas dinner. Santa, Mrs. Clause, and the elves spend all day talking to the children and passing out candy canes. |  |
