Partners In Education

Massey Energy is pleased to partner with elementary, middle, and high schools across Southern West Virginia.

Massey provides volunteers and generous financial assistance to assist their partner schools with purchasing educational materials and sports equipment.

Members of the Massey Energy Tug Valley Spousal Group make monthly visits to various schools and head start centers in the Tug Valley Region to read to schoolchildren, provide pizza and drinks, and a small treat.

At the company’s Aflex, Kentucky cabin, local school children and staff from Sacred Heart, Williamson Middle School, and Runyon Middle School are treated to a day of fun including games, such as volleyball, softball, and soccer, horse-drawn carriage rides, and lunch.

Members of the Massey Energy Route 85 Spousal Group donated a scoreboard for the Sherman Little League Park, a scoreboard for the Scott High School athletic field, two pieces of playground equipment for Twilight Community Park, and playground equipment for the Kid’s Place Daycare Center in Chapmanville.

At Sherman High School, the Route 3 Spousal Group provided equipment to furnish the school’s computer room.

The Route 3 Spousal Group also partners with Liberty High School, Fairdale Elementary School, and Sherman Elementary School to provide funding for awards programs, a public address system, attendance awards, Field Day t-shirts, and books for reading programs.

Raleigh County Community Action was also a beneficiary of the spousal group’s generous support.  Massey’s Route 3 Spousal Group purchased ceiling tiles for the Head Start building and also purchased plaques to be given to the children in the Pettus Head Start Literacy Program.

At Trap Hill Middle School, the Route 3 Spousal Group donated money to help the school purchase trophy cases to display trophies that had been in storage for two years.

Clear Fork Elementary School benefited from the spousal group’s generous donation of playground equipment, school supplies, and t-shirts for the school’s Field Day.

At Clear Fork, Marsh Fork, and Fairdale Elementary Schools, Massey Members and Route 3 Spousal Group members dressed up like Santa and Mrs. Claus and provided a treat to all of the school children.
